Kia & Hyundai recalls over 100k electric vehicles for potential fire hazard

Fire risk causes Kia & Hyundai to recall over 100k vehicles in North America

Greetings from Fire Patriots,

As an avid supporter and advocate of the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, I wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power these vehicles have on our society and environment. However, it's important to be cognizant of the challenges that come along with this promising transition, especially when it comes to safety. One of these challenges pertains to the risk of fires in EVs due to various reasons such as improper repair, accidents, manufacturing errors or other factors.

Recently, leading automakers Hyundai Motor and Kia announced a recall of over 113,000 newer vehicles in North America, citing fire risks. The affected models include the Hyundai 2023-2024 Palisade, 2023 Tucson, Sonata, Elantra, and Kona vehicles along with the 2023-2024 Seltos and the 2023 Kia Soul, Sportage vehicles. The recall, which encompasses about 52,000 Hyundai vehicles and nearly 40,000 Kia vehicles in the United States, as well as 11,000 Hyundai and 10,700 Kia vehicles in Canada, is a testament to the reality of these challenges.

The issue originates from the electronic controllers for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly, which may house damaged electrical components leading to the pump's overheating. This recall not only puts the safety of the vehicle owners at stake but could also potentially impact the overall trust and confidence in EV technology. While the manufacturers have reported no accidents or injuries, they did disclose several thermal events that are potentially related to this issue.

As part of the recall process, owners will be notified for a necessary inspection and replacement of the electric oil pump controller in late September. In the interim, the companies urge owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the issue is rectified. They have also advised a rental vehicle be provided to customers who do not feel safe operating their recalled vehicle.

While these measures are commendable, we at Fire Patriots believe there is an immediate and effective solution to enhance safety in such situations: the Fire Cloak Electric Vehicle (EV) Fire Blanket. Our product is designed to suppress EV fires efficiently and quickly, providing an extra layer of protection to EV owners.

In addition to recalls, there are other risks to consider. Heat damage could potentially cause a short circuit impacting other onboard vehicle controllers, highlighting the need for a comprehensive solution like the Fire Cloak EV Fire Blanket. It's not merely about rectifying the issues that led to recalls but proactively safeguarding your vehicle and, by extension, yourself and your family.

The EV transition is an exciting journey that promises immense benefits. Yet, it's crucial to address the challenges that come along. At Fire Patriots, we are committed to making this journey safer with our innovative solution - the Fire Cloak EV Fire Blanket. We're not just selling a product; we're providing peace of mind to the EV community. As we continue to embrace this revolutionary change in our transportation, let's do so with safety as a top priority.
